Our life is nothing short of an adventure...

Wind in our hair and screams of delight but also unpredictable turns and unknown outcomes. We are a family of six; Dave, Susie, Nate, Jake, Sam, and Bella.

God has been faithful in our marriage and through the birth and blessings of our boys.

God has been faithful during our adoption journey and united Bella with us in May of 2008. We were privileged to visit with Bella's birth mother; therefore, Bella's family in Guatemala will always be dear to our hearts.

On October 16, 2008, Bella was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia. We are now battling the disease with 2 years and 3 months of treatment. We believe God will continue to be faithful!

Our family is committed to living life to the fullest...even on the hard days. Thank you for checking in and journeying with us!

Quick Update

I apologize for not updating sooner. I truly appreciate all of my faithful bloggers and your comments means so much to me. Life has been a bit busy, but fortunately, its been a GREAT 7 weeks with Bella. All glory to God.

Bella started Delayed Intensification yesterday, this is phase 4 of 6. This next 60 days is a repeat of the first two months with a couple additional chemo's. Bella is also on Steroids again, however, they are 7 days on 7 days off, rather than a full 30 days. So far, she is doing really good, she's just really tired and does not have a big appetite. The doctors say she will lose her hair this round...we shall see, they said that the first 2 months and she still has a decent head of hair. They also say her counts will drop again thus making her prone to infection and illness...so we will be housebound again in a couple weeks. Monday she receives another bone marrow aspiration, I don't even know what number this is now, she has had so many I have lost track. We are so thankful to be at one of the top notch hospitals in the country for Hematology and Oncology, Bella has always been sedated for these procedures, she does not even know what happens. It's always a little entertaining to me as she does not like being knocked out and tries to fight it. Her eye's get really big and she gives me this angry look, I count to 5 and she's always out by 6. She is always miss happy lovey girl when she wakes up.

On a side note, I just completed week 3 of training for a 5k I am doing in May with my cousins and sister-in-law. This is huge for me as I have disliked running very much in the past...I am group exercise all the way. It's getting easier, I am actually starting to believe that I will be able to accomplish 3 miles without stopping to walk. A week ago, I just couldn't even imagine it, but I knew that "all things are possible with God".

I leave you this evening with a recent video of Bella playing Jake's drums last week. She was so pleased with herself and made sure to hit every drum and symbol.

God bless you all, I pray you hear God's whisper as to you how much we appreciate you, we treasure all of you.

Bella looks so big in the video. I'll be keeping all of you in my prayers through this next phase and believing God will keep Bella's hair in her head.

Love the video! I'm so happy that she's doing so well with her treatments, and so proud of you for even thinking about, much less attempting to run a 5K. I could probably do a 50 yard dash . . . Love to you!

Music is so therapeutic-something about beating a drum just reaches deep. Can't wait to hear more. I'm sure watching her brother do it makes her just want to get in there and compete! How blessed she is to have her brothers to lead the way!

Sounds like life is rolling along nicely. We will keep Bella in our prayers as she begins this next phase.Of course Zoey is on a different protocol because she has AML,but ... the hair thing is so bizarre to me.She is about to begin round 4 of 5 and still ... all her hair.they say the the Down syndrome children do it in their own unique way..the story of Zoey's life .. unique!Bella is so darling and such a bright light radiates from her precious face.Keep up the running. It grows on you.I so wish I could get back to it.Month long stays at a time in the hospital doesn't make it easy.Peace and strength to you all .. especially Miss Bella.

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not over overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior." Isaiah 43: 2-3

As I was thinking about this scripture, my mind drifted to the story of shadrack, Meshach and Abednego, and this scripture in particular.

"And the princes, governors, and captains, being gathered together, saw these men, whose bodies the fire had no power on, nor was a hair of their head singed, neither their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them." Daniel 3:27

Not only did God keep them from being burned, but they came out not even smelling of smoke! Doesn't that just make you want to jump up and shout Praises to our Savior? Wow! How great is our God!

As Bella walks through her own kind of fire, we're believing she comes out with not even a single hair singed and smelling sweeter than she did going it! For that is the power of our Mighty God!

Love in Christ,
Dana Burk
